Andrew J. Shine passed away Monday, April 25, 2016, at Hospitality Home East. He was born in Cass, West Virginia, on January 3, 1922 to Frank and Mary Shine. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rose Marie (Maljovec) of Kane, Pennsylvania, of 69 years and 6 children; Thomas of College Park, MD; Nancy (Stoner) of Los Altos, CA; Daniel of West Carrollton; Brigid (Broadwell) of Mt. Joy, PA; Rebecca (Schwenker) of Kettering; and Rosemary (Martin) of Xenia, and by 12 grandchildren, Ben Shine, Abby Shine, Christianne Shine, Carrie Coleman, Robert Stoner, Annie Marple, Sarah Broadwell, Eric and Scott Schwenker, Nicholas, Amanda, and Alex Memering, and one great-grandchild, Lily Coleman. Andrew spent most of his young life on his family's dairy farm near Wilcox, PA, where he attended school in Wilcox and graduated from Wilcox High School in 1940. Andrew studied mechanical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY and at The Ohio State University where he was awarded his PHD degree. During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army and after training in the infantry was assigned to the Corps of Engineers to work on the Manhattan Project in Decatur, IL. His principal employment was with the United States Air Force Institute of Technology at WPAFB where he taught aero-mechanical engineering for 28 years, partly as a department head. Upon retirement, he taught on a part-time basis for 26 years in the mechanical engineering department of the University of Dayton. Andrew was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. He enjoyed teaching, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospitality Home East and Dr. Richard Byers who took great care of Andrew over the past 2 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Saturday, April 30, at St. Brigid Church, 312 Fairground Rd., Xenia, with Rev. John Krumm officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Friday at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with a Knights of Columbus service at 8pm.
