Bonnie Jean Feuerstein Koger, 88, of Xenia, OH passed away peacefully on May 13, 2016 at her residence.
She was born January 9, 1928, in Saginaw, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Jewell Schmeider Kessler.
Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Mary Jo Simstad, Xenia, two sons, Donald J. Feuerstein (Janie Little) Saginaw, Michigan and John F. Feuerstein (Patricia) The Woodlands, Texas, grandchildren Stephanie Hines (Jeff), Joshua Feuerstein, and Jean-Paul Feuerstein (Sasha), great-grandchildren Todd Hines, Ryan Hines (Nancy), and Renee Shank (Cameron), by close nieces, nephews, and by many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Donald A. Feuerstein, their son Paul Feuerstein her second husband, Donald L. Koger, and granddaughter Amanda Rae Feuerstein.
She lived in Michigan, Florida, and Ohio. Bonnie was a lifelong Catholic and attended St. Peter and Paul Church in Saginaw, Michigan for many years.
In 1962, discouraged by the lack of activities for teenagers in Saginaw, Michigan, She and a friend purchased the Golden Glow Ballroom and turned it into one of the Midwest's premier entertainment venues. She booked up-and-coming national acts including The Supremes, Ike and Tina Turner, Chubby Checker, Jan and Dean, and Wayne Newton, among many others. Bonnie was known by the teen patrons and their parents for her dress code and strict no swearing, no drinking, and no betting at the pool table rules.
Bonnie was also an avid knitter and sewer throughout her life and used her skills to help others. In 2003, while living in North Fort Myers, Florida, she started a sewing group that made hand-crafted bags for the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Florida outreach program. The bags were used to provide information and gifts for newly diagnosed ovarian cancer patients. The group also made heart pillows to comfort breast cancer patients post –surgery.
A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in private with the family in Michigan.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the Dr. Richard Byers and staff, Dr. Emily Vannorsdall, and Hospice of Dayton for the special care provided to Bonnie throughout her recent illness.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, National Shrine of St. Jude, or the International Tremor Foundation in her memory. Condolences may be made to the family at www.NeeldFuneralHome.com .
