Carlton (Archie)
Grieve
May 25, 1933 – January 9, 2022
Carlton (Archie) Grieve who passed from this life on January 9, 2022, was born May 25, 1933, to Carlton C. & Erma (Smith) Grieve. Both of his parents were descended from families who were among the earliest residents of Greene County, and Arch himself was a lifelong Greene County Resident. He was raised on the family farm on Grieves Road, and then spent his adulthood as a resident of the City of Xenia.
He married Patricia A. Dominy on January 26, 1957, and after nearly thirty-six years of marriage she preceded him in death on December 16, 1992. They had one child, C. Arch Grieve, Jr. who is married to Tammie Agnor Grieve, and they reside in Xenia. Arch is also survived by his grandchildren, who were a source of pride and joy. His oldest grandchild Arch A. Grieve & wife Amanda live in Dayton, and his youngest grandchild Patrick L. Grieve resides in Chicago. He is also survived by Judith Martin, who was a very important part of the final third of his life. Arch was also preceded in death by his only sibling, Nancy K. Grieve.
Arch graduated from Xenia High School in 1951, and later graduated from the University of Dayton. He was employed by the Greene County Sheriff's Office for a brief period in 1954 prior to his induction into the U. S. Army later that year. He served in the Army until 1956. Upon his discharge he returned to the Sheriff's Office and remained there until joining the City of Xenia Police Department in 1957. He served twenty-five years with the department where he worked as a Detective, Sergeant, and then finished his career serving eight years as a Lieutenant. He was working at City Hall on April 3, 1974, and had many fascinating stories about the tornado and its aftermath.
After retiring from the Xenia Police Department Arch was hired by the Honorable Edward R. Kimmel to serve as his Bailiff. He served in Judge Kimmel's court until the Judge's retirement in 1990. Arch made many close friends while working at the courthouse.
Though Arch enjoyed annual trips to Maine, he had a lifelong attachment to Indian Lake where he had a weekend home for most of his adult life. Arch will be missed by family and friends who will always cherish his memory.
Arch was a member of Old Town United Methodist Church, and Pastor Ken Martin will conduct the funeral service to be held at 1pm, Thursday, January 13, at Neeld Funeral Home, with visitation from 12-1pm, immediately preceding the service. Private burial will be held by the family in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia, following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either Old Town United Methodist Church, or to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. Condolences may be made to the family at www.NeeldFuneralHome.com .
