Obituary

Carolyn Jane Hodson, 77, of Xenia, went home to her Heavenly Father, on Friday, August 16, 2024. She was born March 1, 1947, in Bellbrook, Ohio, the daughter of Ray and Joan (Jones) Boatman. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband, Stephen Paul Hodson, Sr. Carolyn was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was devoted to and loved her family, as well as her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She is survived and missed by her three loving children: daughter Joanna Hodson and partner, Shan Edgington, and her two children, Lauren and Michael, and Lauren's daughter Mercedez; son Steve and wife, Becky Hodson and their seven children, Kara (fiancé, Levi), Nathan, Ellen, Gwen, Brianna, Julia, and Henry; and daughter Sarah and husband, Adam Mays and their three children, Freddy, Layla, and August. Carolyn is also survived by her siblings, Rayann Brown, Doug (Janet) Boatman, and David (Jennie) Boatman, and many other relatives and friends.

Carolyn was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist for 50 years and served as a Youth Leader with her husband for over 15 years. She also coordinated the Prayer Chain at church for many years. She loved her church family as well as her work family. She worked and retired from WCDR Radio (Cedarville University) as the Office Manager after 20 years. Carolyn was known for her sense of humor, especially in the many humorous poems she loved to write. She also had a generous heart and took great joy in helping others in need. When she gave a gift, she often would remind someone, "let me do this… don't steal my joy!"  She also was known for her never-ending love for her husband and family.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 25, 4-7 PM at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St. A memorial service will be held the next day on Monday, August 26, at 11AM at the same location, with Pastor Greg Couser officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Gardens following the service.
