Cathy Lynn (Atkinson) Cain, 78, of Springfield, formerly of Xenia, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Kettering Medical Center. She was born June 16, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Charles L. and Marilyn Beamer Atkinson. She was a 1965 graduate of Xenia High School and was married, converted and attended St. Brigid Church for many years. With the last two years as a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Springfield. She is survived by her beloved husband, George Cain, whom she married, September 14, 1968, her mother, Marilyn Atkinson, daughters, Sonya Cain and Molly (Eli) Shackleford, grandchildren, Samantha (Cole) Hamilton, Aiden Waggoner, Jake Waggoner, and Gibson Guyton, sisters, Susan Sipes, JoAnna Ayres, and Jeanne (Stephan) Winkelman, a brother, Charles L. Atkinson, Jr., by numerous nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her father. Cathy was a kind, compassionate, generous and accepting person whose warmth made everyone feel at ease. To know her was to adore her. She loved her family, reading, traveling and fashion. She was the family planner, always checking on others and making sure those she loved were cared for. Her smile and laughter could light up a room. Cathy was blessed with a loving marriage of 58 years, filled with adventure and countless cherished memories. She was a devote wife, mother and Grandmother, and served as the anchor and beacon of her family. Her love, strength and presence touched so many lives, and she will be deeply and incredibly missed.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10am, Wednesday, June 10, at St. Brigid Church, 312 Fairground Rd., Xenia, with a gathering held afterwards. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Brigid Memorial Program, 258 Purcell Dr., Xenia, OH, 45385, in her memory. Condolences may be made to the family at www.NeeldFuneralHome.com.
