Obituary

David Michael Schutte, 57, of Xenia, passed away Monday, September 14, 2015, surrounded by family and friends at his residence. He was born June 17, 1958, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Robert Leo and Janice Beasley Schutte. He was a member of St. Brigid Church, a life member of Irish Hills Golf Club, and was a former officer of Xenia Elks Lodge, # 668. Dave didn't just live life; he attacked life with a heartfelt and powerful intensity. He faced his challenges and conquered them all. He could make friends simply by showing up and having funand with Dave, a friendship was for life. David loved to laugh but he was also a fierce competitor who hated to lose; when he tried a new sport or hobby, his goal was to be the best. Dave was a winner: he won a Mount Vernon golf league title and he won the Knox Idol talent contest as a country music singer. He won over people's hearts wherever he went and in whatever activity he was participating. Dave was a devoted fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds, and The Ohio State University football. He was extremely proud of the fact that throughout his battle with cystic fibrosis, he never let the disease win or be an excuse; he worked continuously during his adult life from Friendly's Ice Cream and The Corner Pharmacy in Xenia, to machinist jobs at Stromag, Inc. and Starwin Industries in Kettering, and finally as a specialty shop tool and die machinist at Ariel Corporation in Mount Vernon, where he worked the final 10 years of his career until he was diagnosed with cancer in November 2014. His goal following cancer treatment was to play in the 10th Annual Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Golf Scramble in July 2015 in Mount Vernon, which he accomplished. David is survived by his father, Robert L. Schutte; five brothers, Lawrence Beasley Schutte, Robert William "Bud" Schutte, John Harley (Jennifer) Schutte, Donald Lee (Bonnie) Schutte, and Joseph Edward Schutte; by several nieces and nephews, Denise Schutte, Emma Schutte, Elizabeth (Chad) Priest, Alexandra Schutte, Jessika Schutte, and Dylan (Tami) Thomas; great-nephews and nieces, Tate, Gavin, Quinn and Maverick, and by many close friends in sports taverns and karaoke bars, on golf courses and volleyball courts, on football and softball fields, and in bowling alleys and pool halls from Greene County to Knox County, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his mother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Monday, September 21, at St. Brigid Church, 312 Fairground Rd., Xenia. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Sunday, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Springfield. Contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Rd., 2nd Floor, Bethesda, MD, 20814, or to Hospice of the Miami Valley, 46 N. Detroit St., Suite B., Xenia, OH, 45385, in his memory. Condolences may be made to the family at www.NeeldFuneralHome.com. WHODAVE
