Obituary

Deborah Ann Downey, 67, of Beavercreek, passed away Monday, October 27, 2025, at her residence. She was born July 22, 1958, in Xenia, Ohio, the daughter of Nathan and Patricia Ward Downey. She is survived by a sister Barbara (Keith) Hawkins, a brother Robert (Donna) Downey, and sister-in-law Cindy Downey, nieces and nephews: Wendy Crawford, Davis (Angie) Hawkins, Trinity (Wes) Potter, Nathaniel (Dawn) Downey, Elizabeth (Eric) Clawson, Sarah (Christopher) George, Lucas (Brittany) Hawkins, great-nieces and great-nephews: Sam; Ryann (Alex) & Nicholas; Hunter & Bud; Jazmyn, Bryan, & John; Cordelia; Cary & Clark; Adah, Clara, & Oliver, and by many friends, including a close friend Kathy Treinavicz. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Downey, and by her beloved pets, Bo and Tad. Debbie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Deb was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt. Growing up, she was involved in choir and 4-H. She played sports including volleyball, track, basketball, and softball through school and in co-ed leagues. She graduated from Beavercreek High School in 1976, and Capitol University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Deb was a software engineer working in various capacities over the years; from main frame computing to modern day cloud computing. Deb had many friends all over the country. She loved to travel and to stay connected to the many people who had touched her life. She enjoyed keeping in touch with her Beavercreek classmates, and remained active in organizing class reunions and get-togethers.

Deb was a talented artist, skilled in both paint and crochet. She loved sharing her creative gifts with others, and could always be counted on for a baby blanket, a special Halloween costume project, or a one-of-a-kind Christmas ornament. She enjoyed showcasing her talent at the Greene County Fair each summer and brought home many blue ribbons. She also loved sharing fair time with her nieces and nephews, spending hours in the barn during show times, and spoiling them afterward with evenings of food, rides, and games.

Deb was the aunt and great-aunt that every kid deserves. She was their biggest fan, and was there in every gymnasium and auditorium. She had a seat in every bleacher and on every sideline, no matter when or where, and in every kind of weather. Deb was a generous gifter of favorite toys and beautiful handmade things, but what really made her special was how generous she was with her time. Deb was always there for the people she loved.
