Obituary

Dwight E. Johnson , 87, of St. Clairsville, formerly of Xenia, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022. He was born November 17, 1934, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, the son of Harold H. and Mary N. (Schwartz) Johnson. He was a 1953 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, attended the University of Cincinnati, where he received his teaching certificate, and retired as a carpentry teacher at Laurel Oaks Career Center, Wilmington. He was a member of Xenia United Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his children, Tim H. (Colleen) Johnson, St. Clairsville, Jill E. Johnson, Beavercreek, and Molly A. Prindle, Beavercreek, grandchildren, Jacob Johnson, Madeline Prindle, Caroline Prindle, and Samuel Prindle; sisters-in-law Judy Johnson, Kay Johnson, and Martyne McPherson; brother-in-law Richard (Dolly) McPherson; by numerous nieces and nephews, and by many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Evelyn A. (McPherson) Johnson, on July 29, 1990, siblings, Norma Jean Browning, Richard Johnson, Jerry Johnson, and Donny Johnson; in-laws, Betty Schnittke, Mabel Albright, Kathleen Hooper, Helen Judy, Eugene McPherson, Margaret Haas, Phyllis Degen and by a longtime family friend, Marv Egler.

Dwight was an active church member and devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed following Wooster College basketball as a member of the Rebounders Club and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

There will be a private viewing for family followed by a private burial at Woodland Cemetery, Xenia.  There will be a public celebration of life on Mon. Aug. 22 from 4:00 – 5:00pm at Xenia United Presbyterian Church, 343 W. Ankeney Mill Rd., Xenia, with Rev. Mike Wakeland officiating.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Xenia United Presbyterian Church, or a charity of choice in his memory.
