Emma R. Lindsey, of Xenia, passed away March 12, 2022. She was born August 19, 1930, in Xenia, Ohio, the daughter of Clarence A. Hopping and Gladys Rector Hopping Vandergriff. She was a lifelong resident of Xenia and a 1948 graduate of Xenia Central High School, where she was homecoming queen and a cheerleader. In 1952, she married Benson E. Lindsey Sr. who preceded her in death in 2007. She is survived by four daughters, Lori (Steve) Bird, Susan (Dennis) DeLack, Judy Lindsey (Dick Hartzell), Amy Lindsey (Jason Branhan), and a son, Benson (Betsy) Lindsey Jr.; twelve grandchildren, David (Cheryl) Breitenstein, Jason Breitenstein (Lashawnda Runyon) Lindsey Bird (Todd) Reynolds, Emily (Nick) Eschhofen, Michael (Kathy) Bird, Jeremy (Julie) DeLack, Tony DeLack, Scott DeLack, Benson Lindsey III (Xop Alexopoulos), Lily Lindsey (Beth Tobergte), Cole Smith, and Lauren Smith. She also had fifteen great-grandchildren, and many close friends.
As a mother, Emma was active in the Girl Scouts and served the Buckeye Trails Council as a member and a troop leader for many years. She took pride in herself as a mother, planning and enjoying family camping trips as well as travelling. She met many friends through her work with Playhouse Home Parties and Friendly Home Parties where she served as a regional manager. She also served as a food demonstrator and salesperson with Lazarus. In later years, she found joy hosting holiday meals for the extended family, time at the cabin at Rocky Fork, attending grandchildren's activities and spending time with her "first grade, lifelong friends".
Services will be held at noon on Wednesday, March 16 at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Visitation will be held from 11am until service time at noon. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia. Lunch at Xenia United Presbyterian at 343 W Ankeney Mill Road immediately following graveside service. Contributions may be made to Girl Scouts of Western Ohio or Xenia Community Schools Foundation in her memory. Condolences may be made to the family at www.NeeldFuneralHome.com .
