Garay W. Goecke, 80, of Xenia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Shawnee Estates of Xenia. Born on August 5, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of Wilmer F. and Helen R. "Cathy" Goecke.
Garay was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Dale Ann, whom he married on August 30, 1966. Together, they built a loving family that includes their children Michelle (Curtis) Zimmerman of Ohio, Christopher (Kimberly) Goecke of Ohio, Stacy (Harley) Zachary of Florida, and Cheryl (Adam) Lohman of Virginia, along with 13 grandchildren. His unwavering dedication to his family was evident in everything he did.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Garay served during the Vietnam War. His deep faith as a member of St. Brigid Church was a cornerstone of his life, influencing his actions and relationships. He was an active member of the Professional Golf Association.
As former president of Goecke Enterprises Inc. and WGC Golf Course in Xenia, Garay spent his life dedicated to the sport he loved. WGC was a family endeavor spanning three generations and Garay's pride and joy. His passion for golf was evident in his founding of the Miami Valley Junior Golf Association, where he made significant contributions to the future of the sport, earning accolades from the PGA.
Garay will be remembered for his humility, integrity, and the profound impact he made on the Xenia community. He touched the lives of many, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will take place from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on October 23rd at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 North Detroit Street, Xenia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 24th at St. Brigid Church, located at 312 Fairground Road, Xenia with Father Ken Schartz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Brigid's Cemetery.
