George Edward Lovett, age 89, was born to Harvey and F. Jeanetta Rittenhouse Lovett, on March 13, 1925 in his parent's home in Cedarville, Ohio. He passed away on January 24, 2015 peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family. George graduated from Cedarville High School in 1943. He has lived in Greene County his entire life. He served in the United States Army and was in World War II. He served with the 71st signal service battalion in Tokyo, Japan. He had charge of 7 men and received and transmitted messages on an AN/TRC 6. He turned 21 years old while in Tokyo, He had an honorable discharge on Oct. 31, 1946. On December 31, 1952, he married Marjorie Jane Hill in her family home in New Burlington, OH. George worked at the OSSO/OVCH home and retired with 30 years of service in 1984. He worked in the maintenance dept. as a carpenter. He loved the children at the home and was a great role model, mentor, and friend to many. George was a 4-H advisor for 15 years and also was on the 4-H Committee and Swine Committee. He was a member of the Greene County Farm Bureau and the Old Timers Club. He and Marge had standard bred horses and enjoyed many years of racing. He also enjoyed raising livestock on his farm along with his Belgian mares. He loved helping his son-in-law farm and greatly loved and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with their love of 4-H, FFA, and showing livestock. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, his parents Harvey and Jeanetta Rittenhouse Lovett, a stillborn daughter Jennifer Ellen Lovett, his brother and wife Richard and Lois Lovett, brother Neil Lovett, sisters and spouses, June and Virgil Varvel, Doris Jean and Harry Earley, Esther and Max Rotroff, and sister Shirley Carroll, brothers-in-law, Dick Shaneyfelt and Pete Hill, and nephew Jerry Varvel. He is survived by his "babygirl" Cheryl "Peach" and husband Jamie Hawkins, grandchildren, E.J. (Jordan) Hawkins, Willie (Heide) Hawkins, Molly Jane (Chad) Babcock, eight great-grandchildren, Sydnee and Casen Hawkins, Bailey, Ally, and Avery Hawkins, Ellie, Maggie, and Chance Babcock. He is also survived by his sister Helen Shaneyfelt, sister-in-law Noreen Lovett, brother-in-law Gwin Carroll, sister-in-law, Louise Hill, several nieces and nephews, his "Tuesday Lunch" buddies-John Bay, Joe Banford, and Dean King, and by many, many friends. Services will be held at 10am, Thursday, January 29, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Pastors Mike and Nancy McCormick officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm, Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Burlington Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Miami Valley, 46 N.
