Gladys Irene Penewit, 94, of Xenia, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Hospitality Home East. She was born February 20, 1921, in Greene County, Ohio, the daughter of Clarence and Flora McGrew Hoffman. She was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church and was a volunteer for the Spring Valley Senior Citizens Center. She was a long-time Greene County dairy farmer. She is survived by a daughter, Ann (Les) VanDyne, two sons, Kenneth C. Penewit, and Richard (Wanda) Penewit, all of Xenia, nine grandchildren, Robert C. (Michelle) Penewit, Amanda Lee (Keith) Smail, Leslie (Jim) Sloan, Kristin (Matt) Kehl, Jeremy VanDyne (fiancé, April Floyd), Josh (Erika) VanDyne, Heather (Monte) Simmons, Nathan Penewit, and Melody (Ron) Reyes, 20 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a brother, Sherman Hoffman, a sister-in-law, Louise Hill, by numerous nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth M. "Pete" Penewit, on January 16, 1988, a son, Dennis Penewit, a brother, and by four sisters. Gladys will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Services will be held at 10am, Thursday, September 3, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Pastor Mark Brooks officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery.
