Glenn E. Harner, 89, of Xenia, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023. He was born November 27, 1933, in Xenia, Ohio, the son of Ernest L. and Hazel Linkhart Harner. He was a 1951 graduate of Xenia Central High School. Glenn grew up at the District 5 ODNR Fish Hatchery in Xenia where he and his father raised fish for pond stocking and after moving to the farm continued to raise and sell fish and manage several ponds until fall, 2023. Annually, on the 1st Saturday of June, Glenn provided fish for the annual Youth Fishing Derby at Shawnee Park in Xenia, organized by the Xenia City Park District. He was one of the original conservation farmers of Greene County being one of the early adopters of no-till farming. He was active in the Greene Soil and Water Conservation Board and received recognition as a member of the Ohio Walk of Fame at the Farm Science Review. He collected and recorded weather data for 38 years for NOAA and was recognized along with his father for over 75 years of service. He received Ohio's Conservation District Conservation Farmer Award, and volunteered as a Greene County Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor for 22 years. He and his wife Phyllis farmed and continued to help their daughter Christine and husband Brent operate their 4,500 acres in Miami, Clark and Greene Counties. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Ringer) Harner, whom he married, October 9, 1965, a daughter, Christine (Brent) Pence, granddaughter, Paige Pence, of New Carlisle, a brother, Fred Harner, Tolstoy, SD, sister-in-law, Patty Harner, Xenia, by several nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Ernest "Roy" Harner, and by a sister-in-law, Coleen Harner. Glenn will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 10am, Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Friday, November 10, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the "City of Xenia" Attn: Michelle Johnson-Youth Fishing Derby, and mailed to 107 E.
