Obituary

Gloria L. Wolff, 88, of Xenia, passed away on March 20, 2015, the first day of Spring, at Hospice of Dayton. She was born July 28, 1926, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Rev. James and Dorothy Ogier Laurie. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Greene County Court Appointed Special Advocates program (CASA), the United Way, FISH food pantry, Greene County Family and Children First, Council on Rural Services Agency, League of Women Voters, P.E.O. International, Xenia Board of Education, Miami Valley Women's Center, Hospitality Network, Meals on Wheels, and the Xenia Adult Recreation and Service Center. For over 10 years, she opened her home to over 60 Cedarville University students. She also enjoyed traveling to the countries of Turkmenistan, Ireland, Australia, Japan, and China with Friendship Force. In 1970, she took a job with the Greene County Welfare Department, where she worked until 1979, serving at one point as the acting director. She also worked another year at Greene County Children's Services and seven years with the Greene County Head Start program that she helped establish. Gloria was a graduate of Grinnell College. Her master's degree in social work from Columbia University didn't get official use for many years as she raised her six children in Xenia. Gloria will be greatly missed by all who knew and love her. She is survived by her former husband, Dr. John Wolff, of Xenia, her children, Elizabeth Village (Andrew), York, England, Nancy Miller (Mark), Beavercreek, Janet Trader (Ron), Cincinnati, John Wolff, Bowling Green, Susan Nickels (Eric), Springfield, Jim Wolff (Chris), Rochester, NY, grandchildren, Hannah, Miriam, David, Adam, Emily, Andrew, Heather, Rachel, Alex, and Katie, great-grandchildren, Norah and Benjamin, two brothers and a sister, George Laurie (Donna), David Laurie (Jackie), and Dorsey Taylor (Roger), by several nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. Memorial services will be held at 10am, Wednesday, March 25, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Xenia, with Rev. Donald Smith officiating. The family will meet friends following the service at the church. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Valley View Memorial Gardens, Xenia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 990 Old Springfield Pike, Xenia, OH, 45385, or P.E.O. International in her memory.
