Helen L. Hess, 102, of Xenia, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Friends Care Center, Yellow Springs. She was born November 8, 1918, in Greene County, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph O. and Lorine Volkenand Mills. She was a member of the Aldora Chapter #262, O.E.S. and retired from the Xenia City Schools. She is survived by a daughter, Jenny Hess, Clinton, TN, a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry (Gertrude) Hess, Xenia, three grandchildren, Thomas (Jennifer) Hess, Mandy (Brett) Deane, and Jason Brown, six great-grandchildren, Tayton Hess, Callista Hess, Colter Hess, Lauren (Jonathan) Mott, Olivia Deane, and Kate Deane, great-great-grandchildren, Levi Mott and Savannah Mott, by numerous nieces and nephews and by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph L. Hess, on November 22, 2011, and by a brother, Raymond E. Mills. Helen will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Graveside services will be held at 11:30am, Tuesday, October 26, at Valley View Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:30am Tuesday, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with an Eastern Star service at 10:30am.
