Obituary

Howard W. Camp, 94, of Xenia, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus, his loving wife, Phyllis, and his son Mark who preceded him to God's Glory, on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. He was the last survivor of nine children, born to John A. and Hazel A. Camp. Preceding him in death were his loving wife Phyllis and his son Mark, his parents, and his siblings, George, Joseph, Allen, Grover, Paul LeRoy, Johnny, Benny, and Eleanor, also his grandson Stephen Jackson. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Christina (Randy) Kidder, grandchildren, Matthew and Monica Camp, great-grandchildren, Logann and Carter Jackson, by numerous nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. Howard proudly served in the U.S. Army as did his father in WWI, his brothers Joseph and Grover in WWII, his brother LeRoy in the Korean War, and his brother Benny between Korea and Vietnam. He proudly served in Korea in the U.S. Army, serving in the 24th Infantry Division, 19th Infantry Regiment, "Company L", as a rifleman earning his rank as Sgt. For his service, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Purple Heart (wounded October 14, 1951), Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Medal for Japan, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Campaign Stars, United Nations Medal for Korean War, Korean Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, Korean Defense Medal presented by South Korea, and the Ambassador Peace Medal presented by the People of South Korea. He served in the National Korean War Veteran's Association as Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, and Chaplain, Greene County Korean War Veterans Services as President, Greene County Veteran Services as a Representative for Korean War Veterans. He wore eleven different hats in service to all Veterans. He was a member of the Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church, and a 1947 graduate of Xenia Central High School. Howard will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  Services will be held at 10am, Friday, November 10, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity in his memory.
