James R. Brown, 89, of Jamestown, Ohio, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024. He was born December 9, 1934, in Greene County, Ohio, the son of Robert F. and Elizabeth (Evans) Brown who preceded him in death. He married Shirley J. Pitzer on January 14, 1955. He was a lifelong farmer and an avid tractor and small engine collector. He was preceded in death by a son, Steve A. Brown, a brother, Keith, sister Carolyn and brother-in-law Carl Sakaitis. He was a member of the New Burlington Community Church, and took turns as worship leader of the Dover Friends Meeting when he was a member. He was a past president of the Lumberton United Methodist Church Board, Lay Leader, past Sunday School Superintendent, past Sunday School teacher, and Youth Leader. He was a past Master and past Secretary of Jamestown Lodge # 352, a past High Priest and Treasurer of Xenia Chapter #36, a past Illustrious Master and Treasurer of Wright Council #96, a past Commander and Recorder of the Nathaniel Greene Commandery #81, recipient of the Knight of the York Cross of Honor, a Charter member and past Sovereign Master of the Robert L. Williams Council #467 of the Allied Masonic Degrees, a past President and Treasurer of the Xenia Masonic Center Board. He was a Charter member of the Fayette Chapter Mark Lodge #4, was the recipient of an honorary membership to Raboni Chapter #232, and a Past 4H leader of Caesarcreek Livestock Club. He was a longtime member of the Antique Power Club of Clinton Co., Inc., served as President, Secretary/Treasurer and Board Director. He was a member of the Clifton Old Timers Club, The Fayette Tired Iron Antique Machinery Club, Highland County Machinery Club, the Ohio Valley Antique Machinery Club, the Fort Ancient Restored Machinery Club, and the Miami Valley Steam Thresher Association. He is survived by a son, Philip M. Brown, daughter-in-law, Janet Brown, grandchildren, Jessica Robinson, James E. (Holly) Brown, Menda and Megan Brown, five great-grandchildren, James E. Brown, Jr., Kendyl Brown, Owen Jenkins, Brady Robinson and Isabella Robinson, a sister and brother-on-law, Charlotte (Marvin) Rehmert, by several nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 10am, Friday, April 26, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Pastor Steve Collett and Pastor Ken Carpenter officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Thursday at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 8pm. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Jamestown Cancer Care, P.O.
