James R. Stroup, 77, of Xenia, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born October 17, 1937, in Highland County, Ohio, the son of Clarence H. and Lucile Connor Stroup. He was a member of the Spring Valley United Methodist Church, and served in the United States Army (Security Agency, Germany, 1961-64). He retired as an electrician for over 40 years and was honored as a 50 year volunteer firefighter and EMS provider with the Spring Valley Township Volunteer Fire Department (2007). He was a member of the New Burlington Masonic Lodge # 574, F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife, Wilma (Boerner) Stroup, who he married September 27, 1958, two daughters, Jenifer (Travis) Lansing, Xenia, and Shery (Eric) Snell, Spring Valley, a son, Samuel (Debby) Stroup, Spring Valley, four grandchildren, Zachery (Amanda Nicole Ruth) Stroup, Cory (Malissa Rose) Stroup, Alysa Snell, and Tahner Snell, by two great-grandchildren, Abigail Stroup and Ava Stroup, and by many close friends. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Wednesday, March 11, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Masonic services at 7:30pm. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family in Spring Valley Cemetery.
