We say “Goodbye for now” and announce the passing of Janet "Lee" Matson Jackson, who entered heaven on July 21, 2026, after a life of service to God and others. Lee was born on February 16, 1933, in Virgil, New York, to John and Gertrude Matson, and her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will forever be remembered by all who knew her. Lee was the devoted wife of the late Donald W. Jackson, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, and her daughters, Terry Lee Pickering and Laurie Sue Jackson. She was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Gertrude Matson, and her brother, Richard J. Matson,Sr. She leaves behind her surviving children: Cindy L. Mash (Mark) and Thomas W. Jackson (Karen), along with son-in-law R. "Dave" Pickering (Wendy); her sisters: Patricia Ann Mohr, Ellen Kay Doak, and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Matson; her grandchildren: Julie (John) Campbell, Kayla (Seth) VanZant, Alex Pickering, Eli (Kay) Mash, Aaron Mash, Meagan Miller, and Gideon Jackson; great-grandchildren: Emery, Sam, Harrison, Calvin, Lucy, and Adlee; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A graduate of Virgil High School and Cortland State University, Lee was a dedicated educator who taught 5th grade for 25 years, with 22 of those years spent at Sugarcreek Local Schools. Her impact on her students through innovative teaching methods and genuine care continues to resonate in the lives she touched. An active member of Eleazer United Methodist Church, Lee served faithfully in several outreach ministries, embodying her unwavering faith and commitment to God. She and her husband, Don, founded a strawberry farm in Caesarcreek Township, which blossomed into Jackson's Farm Market, now under the stewardship of their son, Tom. Lee enjoyed cooking, sewing, baking, singing, traveling, and was a well-known farm “marketeer” in Greene County. Lee was known for her friendliness and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. Her deep faith in the Lord guided her actions and filled her life with purpose and joy. Lee’s family wishes to share their sincere appreciation for the many friends and caregivers who provided comfort, companionship, and devoted support throughout her final years. A celebration of life service will be held on August 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Neeld Funeral Home in Xenia. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
