Obituary

Jay D. Womack, 84, of Cedarville, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 17th at Liberty Nursing Home in Xenia, Ohio. Jay was born November 27, 1930, in Hardy, Kentucky, the son of John Breckenridge and Inez West Womack. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War as an airplane mechanic. After serving his country in this capacity, he returned to his family now living in Churubusco, Indiana, and married Glenda Jean Duffee on August 16, 1958. Jay worked and eventually owned the Mobil Station in Churubusco for 26 years before selling the business and moving to Cedarville, Ohio, where he was employed by Cedarville University as an auto mechanic for 26 years until his retirement in 2007. While in Indiana, he was active in his community as a member of Good News Baptist Church, a coach for little league baseball and a faithful supporter of Churubusco's varsity football and basketball programs, serving over 25 years as the scorekeeper for the boys' varsity basketball team. That love of athletics carried over to Ohio as Jay volunteered his time at home soccer matches and basketball games on Cedarville's campus. He was also a member of the Senior Jackets and a devoted fan of all Yellow Jacket athletic teams. Jay was a longtime active member of Dayton Avenue Baptist Church in Xenia until recently joining Grace Baptist Church in Cedarville. He loved bluegrass music and listening to Glenda play the piano, enjoyed golfing and was an avid gardener. Jay was a fan of Notre Dame football, the Cincinnati Reds and Fort Wayne Komet hockey. He was known for his laughter, quick wit and sense of humor. Along with his devoted wife of 56 years, Jay is survived by a son, Mark (Amy) Womack of Cedarville and two daughters, Carla (Todd) LeMaster of Jamestown and Marcia (Brian) Rittenberg, of Churubusco, Indiana. He will be greatly missed by his beloved grandchildren, Amber (Broc) Begley, Katelyn (Jesse) Syx, Aubrey (Alex) Carlson, Samuel (Lauren) LeMaster, Alison Womack, and Mason and Mallory Sphar; and his "greats," Braden and Harper Begley and Carter Syx. Jay is also survived by two brothers, John (Donna) Womack of Pickerington and Tom (Judy) Womack of Englewood; one sister-in-law, Ruby Womack of Collegeville, Pennsylvania; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Jay is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James "Woody," George "Leo," and Chester "Jack" Womack; and sisters, Florence Nunchuck, Jenny Brookhart and Anita "Judy" Womack. He is also preceded in death by two nephews, Scott Womack and Michael Nunchuck. Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Monday, April 20th, at Grace Baptist Church, 109 N. Main St. in Cedarville. A celebration service of his life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, April 21st, at the church. Burial will be at the North Cemetery in Cedarville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cedarville University Athletic Department in his memory. Condolences may be made to the family at www.NeeldFuneralHome.com.
