Obituary

Jean H. McClellan, 88, of Xenia, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015, at her residence. She was born September 21, 1927, in Xenia, Ohio, the daughter of Howell Bayles and Helen Reutinger Huston. She was a member of Faith Community United Methodist Church, where she has been a member for over 65 years. She was a 1960 graduate of Wilmington College, and was a former teacher at Tecumseh Elementary for 27 years. She volunteered as a reader with Simon Kenton Elementary. She was a member of the Xenia Women's Club, where she served as corresponding secretary and wrote many research papers that are archived at the Greene County Library. She was a member of the Xenia Republican Women's Club, and loved playing bridge with the local Community Bridge Group that was started in 1950 by the Women's Auxiliary to the Greene County Medical Society. She was a leader of the Greene Gems, part of the Homemakers in Community Education group affiliated with The Ohio State University. In 2007, she was named Ohio Homemaker of the year, receiving both of the group's top awards. In 2010, she was inducted in the Greene County Women's Hall of Fame for her endeavors in education as a teacher, a volunteer tutor, and for her involvement in the Homemakers organization. Jean will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by a first cousin, Betsy Tedoldi, and her daughter, Kate Tedoldi, of Needham, MA, niece, Lisa (Michael) Pierce, Thermopolis, WY, a nephew, Schuyler (Sue) McClellan, Colorado Springs, CO, by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband, Schuyler N. McClellan, Jr., on September 22, 1998. Services will be held at 10am, Friday, October 30, at Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Dr., Xenia, OH, with Rev. Rick Tettau officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7pm Thursday, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Xenia Community Schools Foundation, 334 W. Market St., Xenia, OH, 45385, in her memory.
