John R. Bailey, 93, of Xenia, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Wright Rehab and Healthcare, Fairborn. He was born August 23, 1929, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the son of Guy Echols and Mildred Prince Bailey. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War, a faithful member of Faith Community United Methodist Church, where he served on numerous committees and volunteered in several capacities. He was a volunteer with Greene Memorial Hospital, and was an active member with the Greene County Retired Teachers Association. He was a graduate of Marshall University, taught at Logan High School (West Virginia) for one year, and at Beavercreek High School for 31 years. He was also an adjunct professor at Wright State University for 5 years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, reading, especially history, and following current events. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Ritenour) Bailey, whom he married, July 23, 1966, a daughter, Karen DeMain, granddaughter, Megan DeMain, sister, Donna Lee Bauman, by several nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and brother, Robert Bailey, and by sisters, Helen Davis and Ruth Ann Hopkins. John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Celebration of John's life will be held at 11am, Wednesday, August 16, at Faith Community United Methodist Church, Xenia, with Pastor Jeff Bandy officiating. Visitation will be held from 10am Wednesday, until service time. Private graveside services will be held by the family in Fairview Cemetery, Jeffersonville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Dr., Xenia, OH, 45385, to Crossroads Hospice, 8069 Washington Village Dr., Centerville, OH, 45458, or to a charity of your choice, in his memory.
