John Thomas
Saraga
November 3, 1955 – February 20, 2026
John Thomas Saraga, 70, of Xenia, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. He was born November 3, 1955, in Riceville, Iowa, the son of John and Shirley Kephart Saraga. He was a devoted member of the First Lutheran Church, Xenia.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (Richter) Saraga, whom he married, April 26, 1997, his mother, Shirley Ann Saraga, three sons, John Paul Saraga, Richard (Rick) Charles Saraga, and Andrew Carl Saraga, three grandchildren, Zachary, Ethan, and Katie Saraga, a great-grandson, Colson James Saraga, a sister, Jane Wilson, by several nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, and by a son, Scott Lawrence Saraga.
John proudly served his country as a Major in the United States Marine Corps. His years of service were marked by courage, leadership, and unwavering commitment to his fellow Marines. He carried the values of honor, courage, and commitment long after his retirement. He also served as Mayor of the City of Xenia from 1998-2005.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, his greatest joy was being a father. He was a steady presence and a loving example of faith and responsibility to his children. Whether offering guidance, cheering from the sidelines, or simply sharing quiet conversations, he made his family his highest priority.
A passionate supporter of youth athletics, John also served for many years as a volleyball referee. He believed sports built character and discipline, and he brought fairness, encouragement, and a sense of fun to every match he officiated. Many young athletes benefited from his steady leadership and positive spirit.
Though we grieve his passing, we rejoice in the assurance that his legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know him.
