John W. VanDine, Sr., 72, of Xenia, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014, at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia. He was born August 22, 1942, in Mt. Sterling, Ohio, the son of Richard and Francis Scott VanDine. He was a former member of the United Methodist Church, Mt. Sterling, and was a volunteer with the Mt. Sterling Fire Department. He retired as a firefighter with the Xenia Fire Department and worked for the Xenia Community Schools. He is survived by his wife, Diana (Moody) VanDine, whom he married, January 6, 1962, two daughters, Kimberley (Daniel) Johannes, Bonaire, GA, and Susan (Douglas) Johannes, Panama City, FL, a son, John W. VanDine, Jr. (Tamara), Jamestown, seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Janet) Johannes, Joshua (Tatum) Johannes, Jessica Johannes, Cora VanDine, Paige Miranda, Robby (Chrissie) Shiflet, and Breeona (Josh) Payton, seven great-grandchildren, Kale, Aiden, Mason, Madisyn, Noah, Gabe, and Colt, a sister, Linda (Jack) Whited, Washington C.H., two brothers, Charles (Roxanne) VanDine, Xenia, and Greg VanDine, Columbus, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, by numerous nieces and nephews, and by many close friends, including special friends, Carl (Donna) Hillgruber of Xenia.. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Velma Cooper, and by two brothers, Donnie VanDine and Leo VanDine. Services will be held at 10am, Saturday, January 3, at AHOP, 282 Stelton Rd., Xenia, with Pastor Mark Brooks officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Friday at the church.
