Obituary

Jon William Mays, 81, of Xenia, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. He was born March 24,1944, in Xenia, Ohio, the son of Edward Franklin and Margaret Julia Fitzsimmons Mays. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, proudly serving on the USS Hancock (1962-1965) and retired from Twist, Inc. He is survived by two daughters, Tracy R. Salyers (Darin) of Xenia, and Kelly Ritter (Nick) of Beavercreek. Grandfather to Jennilee, Amanda, Emily, Allison, Kelsi, Faith, Brayden and by many great-grandchildren. He will be missed by nieces, nephews and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, by two sisters, Mary Margaret "Maisie" Haines (Kenneth), and Helen Patricia "Pat" Loesser (Arthur), and by two brothers, Harold Lee Mays (Joanne) and Edward Joe Mays. Up until his courageous battle with cancer, Jon enjoyed fishing at Lake Erie, hunting, bicycling, exploring, and collecting lighthouses. He was a member of VFW 8312, the American Legion 763 of Beavercreek and the Xenia Eagles Lodge. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 11am, Wednesday, April 23, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Visitation will be held from 10am Wednesday, until service time. The burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Diabetes Dayton, in his memory. Condolences may be made to the family at www.NeeldFuneralHome.com
