Joseph Ersle Hutchison, Jr. was born at home in Greene County, Ohio on April 12, 1928, the eldest of three sons of Grace (Lile) Hutchison and J. Ersle Hutchison. He died on October 29, 2016 at Legacy Village Rehabilitation Center in Xenia.

He graduated from Xenia Central High School and The Ohio State University with a degree in Agriculture. His career was spent working with purebred Angus and Charolais cattle in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. As a self-taught artist, Joe painted and sculpted grand champion livestock. In the early 80's, he established Hearthstone House, a decorative arts business that specialized in slateware, where he created hand painted slate pieces until his retirement in 2002.

Joseph married Janet (Howarth) Hutchison on August 19, 1950. He is survived by his wife, daughters Heather (Terry) Stoa, Laura (Robert) Anderson, Susan (Gordon) Litt, and son Timothy (Catherine) Hutchison; thirteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Elbert and Robert, and grandson David Anderson.

A memorial service will be held June 17, 2017 at Memorial United Presbyterian Church at 11:00 with visitation one hour prior. His ashes are interred at Woodland Cemetery.
