Lloyd
Combs
June 12, 1932 – November 8, 2022
Lloyd Combs, 90, of Xenia, passed away at home on November 8, after a brief illness. He was born on June 12, 1932 in Breathitt County Kentucky, the son of Warren and Susie Combs. Graduating from high school at 16, he eventually joined the Air Force during the Korean War, mainly serving in the Philippines. He would obtain his Bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky and then his Masters degree from Eastern Kentucky University. He worked as a teacher in the Xenia Schools, first at Tecumseh and then primarily at Central Junior High School, retiring in late 1985. While at Central, he taught Math and OWA (Occupational Work Adjustment) and coached football and basketball. After retiring, he became busier than ever, with his farm outside Xenia and his many rental properties. He and his wife traveled the world, from Ireland to Israel, and from Key West to Hawaii. He enjoyed gardening, reading, music and hiking, just to name a few of his interests.
He married Joyce (Lewis) Combs on October 2, 1954. She survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Laura Howson (Robert) of Arizona, his son Steve (Sheri) of Xenia and son, Jeff (Karin) of Indiana, two grandchildren, Katlyn Combs of Xenia and Kyle Combs of Kentucky and a step granddaughter, Ann Ulerick of Indiana, a sister, Margaret Hubbard of Kentucky. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Wilson Combs of Kentucky.
Lloyd will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. His was a long, productive and full life that touched many people. His and his wife's work ethic was an example to others on how to truly build something in life, without coming from privilege. Service will be held at the convenience of the family at Woodland Cemetery in Xenia. A Celebration of Life, open to everyone, is planned for Friday, December 2 from 5-7pm at the Xenia Community Center, 1265 W. Second St., Xenia.
