Lonnie Gene Hood, 73, of Xenia, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, December 8, 2014, at his residence. He was born December 4, 1941, in Xenia, Ohio, the son of George W. and Alice Rickey Hood. He was a member of the Xenia Christian Center, and retired from Vernay Labs. He is survived by a daughter, Lorrie Hood and a grandson, Daniel Hood, both of Xenia, a brother, Kirby Hood (Peggy, mother of Lorrie), Malta, OH, by three sisters, Lilly (Bob) Hendrickson, Apopka, FL, Gail Gerard, New Carlisle, and Kay Hood, Xenia, by numerous nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his companion of 45 years, Effie Ola McManus, on October 2, 2012, two sisters, Juanita Hood and Saundra Christy, and by a brother, Dale Ricky Hood. Lonnie enjoyed bowling, gardening, and going to Reds baseball games. He loved spending time with his family and his grandson, Daniel, who lived with him. Lonnie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially by his cats; Whiskers, Smokey, and Susan. Services will be held at 2pm, Friday, December 12, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Rev. Wesley Miller officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia.
