Obituary

Mattie Louise Deaton, age 86 of Xenia passed away surrounded by her family on Monday October 31, 2016.  She was born June 16, 1930 in Perry County, KY to Clem and Odessa Joseph. She graduated, and received, her first degree from Lees Junior College in Jackson, KY. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education at the Eastern Kentucky Teachers College, Richmond, KY and her Master's Degree in Education at Wright State University. Mattie was a teacher for over 40 years; primarily early elementary. She touched the lives of many students during her years as an educator. She was also an active member of the Old Timer's Club, the American Association of University Women and the Greene County Chapter of the Kentucky Colonels. She is preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband of 56 years, Ben Deaton, brothers, Clem Joseph, Jr., Mark Lynn Joseph and son-in-law, Paul Sprinkle. She is survived by her much loved daughter Kaye Lynn, sister-in-law and friend, Ann Joseph along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Visitation will be at 10:00am Monday, November 7th, with services following at 11:00am at Neeld Funeral Home on N. Detroit St. in Xenia. Burial will follow in Miami Valley Memory Gardens, Centerville. The family would like to thank the staff of Elmcroft Xenia and Hospice of Dayton for their excellent care and compassion.
