Norma Lee (Strayer) Barrett, 79, of Jamestown, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017, at Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. She was born August 30, 1938, in Paintersvile, Ohio, the daughter of Gilbert M. and Corrine L. Murphy Strayer. She attended Dover Friends Meeting, Wilmington, and was a graduate of Wilmington College. She retired after 36 years as an elementary school English and reading teacher with the Beavercreek City Schools. She is survived by her husband, Marvin A. Barrett, a daughter, Erin Barrett, Kettering, two sons, Shane (Geia) Barrett, Navarre, FL, and Derek (Jennifer) Barrett, Centerville, a step-son, Kevin (Kathy) Barrett, Martinsville, 2 grandchildren, Linsey and Rachel, a brother, Jay M. (Rebecca) Strayer, Xenia, by a special niece, Christy Jaye (Strayer) Britt, Xenia, and by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by a sister-in-law, Barbara Jane "Jill" Strayer. Lee enjoyed caring for her family, cooking, writing poetry and recipe books, and reading Western novels. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
