Phyllis Robinette Nickoson, 95, of Xenia, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. She was born January 24, 1928, in Sugarcreek Township, Ohio, the daughter of Herman and Phyllis Hite-Bergum Robinette, Sr. She was a member of Faith Community United Methodist Church, 1946 graduate of Xenia Central High School, member and past president of Foody Cornwall Post 95, American Legion Auxiliary, member and director of Girls' State, past president and member of the Xenia Old-Fashioned Days Festival Committee for the Xenia Business and Professional Women's Club, and member of Rebekah Lodge. She volunteered for Xenia Community Schools, as well as Greene Memorial Hospital. For over 25 years, she and her husband volunteered by ringing the Salvation Army bells. She was honored with her husband by the Catherine Greene Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution for devoting countless hours in volunteer activities benefiting youth and our nation's veterans. The couple was able to lead the distribution of hundreds of American flags to honor veterans buried in Woodland Cemetery. Phyllis led the project to provide new flags for classrooms in the five new Xenia elementary buildings. In 2009 she was inducted into the Xenia Community Schools Foundation Hall of Honor. She was a secretary and retired from OVCH where she was employed from 1975 to 1990, as well as Kroehler's (18 years), and Marilyn's Country Catering. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Kindred, Xenia, three grandchildren, Nicole (James) Lamb, Betsy (Michael) Blair, and Jason Shaw, six great- grandchildren, Jasmine Shaw, Owen Lamb, Quinn Lamb, Andrew Blair, Alyssa Blair, and Tucker Lamb, a sister, Evelyn Rogers, Xenia, a sister-in-law Evelyn Nickoson, brother-in-law Bill (Barbara) Nickoson, as well as several nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John L. Nickoson, a daughter, Margaret Touhey, a son-in-law, Willie Kindred, two brothers, John W. "Bill" Robinette and Herman Robinette, Jr., a sister-in-law, Ann Roberts, and a brother-in-law, Joe Nickoson. Phyllis will be greatly missed by a thankful community and by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Shawnee Estates for loving Miss Phyllis. Services will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, June 20, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Visitation will be held from 1pm Tuesday, until service time. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia.
