Richard E. Hargrave, age 80, of Xenia, lost his lengthy battle against heart disease with his family by his side on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. He was the son of Benjamin H. Hargrave and Maud Ellen Mitchell Hargrave. He was born on December 17, 1934 in the family home located on Route 72 half way between Jamestown and Bowersville. Surviving are his Wife Wanda Margene Meddock Hargrave, whom he married on July 30, 1955 in Bowersville, Ohio; a Son, Steven E. and his wife, Elizabeth "Beth" Hargrave of Roswell, Georgia; a Daughter, Sharon A. Steiner of Grove City, Ohio; two Grandchildren, Emma G. Hargrave of Roswell, Georgia and Matthew D. Steiner of Grove City, Ohio; a Brother, Ben and wife Ruthanna "Doodle" Hargrave of Jamestown, Ohio and a Sister, Elizabeth Hargrave Long of Beavercreek, Ohio plus many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Bowersville, Ohio in 1952. He began his career at the Seaman Grain Elevator and then went to the National Cash Register. There he became a Journeyman Toolmaker. He took many engineering courses at night at the old NCR Sugar Camp in Oakwood. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas from August 1957 to August 1959. He served on the Shawnee Hills Property Association Board. He was a salesman for Gosiger Machinery Company in Dayton, Ohio and gave many seminars to the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, of which he was a member. He was owner and operator of the Pizza Pantry in Jamestown, Ohio until it burned down in 1995. He had his second heart attack shortly before the fire and his cardiologist advised him to retire rather than go back in business. He was a member of the North Side Christian Church in Xenia, Ohio, Old Timers Club in Xenia, and XARSC. He and Margene enjoyed spending eleven winters in Florida where they met and developed close relationships with many people. He was a "Mr. Fix It" and all around handyman. He liked to take things apart to see how they worked and then put them back together. He taught himself how to use a computer. He loved to golf and to play cards. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Friends may call at the North Side Christian Church, 733 Country Club Drive, Xenia, Ohio from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, November 15, 2015.
