Richard L. Jacobs, 92, of Xenia, OH, passed away On January 6, 2016, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born October 15, 1923, in Willard, OH, the son of the late Vernard F. and Gladys (Connin) Jacobs. He grew up in Willard where he attended elementary through high school. He was a member of the Willard High School Class of 1941. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific for 33 months during World War II and fought in the major battles including Iwo Jima. After returning from World War II he married the love of his life, Martha L. Gill Jacobs (also from Willard) on August 18, 1946. He worked at General Electric in Bellevue, General Motors in Sandusky, and Shelby Air Depot after returning from the war. In 1951 he and Martha became proud parents of twin daughters and, they lived in Willard until 1958, when he and his family moved to Mobile, Alabama where Richard worked at Brookley Air Force Base. In 1960, he and his family moved to Xenia where he made it home until 2016. Living in Xenia, he worked at Defense Electronic Supply Center (DESC in Kettering) as a supervisor and, after retirement from DESC worked for several years for the Greene County Education Service Center. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Xenia, and in his spare time was a First Maintainer at the Church and helped out as a volunteer for The Caring Place. He was also an active member of the Spring Valley Senior Center, Greene County Senior Center, and Xenia Elks Lodge, #668. He had numerous hobbies which included; photography, gardening, reading history books, grilling various meats outside, watching sporting events, working on projects with his daughters, building things and repairing things, and spending time with friends. He always had a good story to tell anyone who would listen and a great sense of humor. He loved being around friend and family. He enjoyed life and always looked for the positives in any situation making the best of what he encountered. He did not hesitate to help someone in need. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha of 62 years, daughter Diana Lynn Jacobs Tingley (2010), son-in-law, David Tingley (2011) of Springfield, his parents, his brothers, Vernard Jacobs (WW II), Willard Jacobs of Florida, and sisters, Marguerite Quinton of Willard, Martha Ruth Lux of Shelby, and Lathiel Denham of CA. He is survived by his daughter Deborah Lee (Fritz) Nolting of Seguin, TX, a niece, Loris Sue Gil, Dayton, a nephews, Barry Gill, Stockton, CA, seven nieces on the Jacobs side of the family, several great-and great-great nieces and nephews, dear neighbors including Tom Bottorff, Betty and Jayne Anderson, Tom, Debbie, and Emily Swigart, and thousands of dear friends including Else and the late Ernie Kraft, Jerry Craig and, Richard and Shirley Wills who spent an enormous amount of their time helping him. He was blessed with a wonderful family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am, on June 22, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Xenia. Visitation with the family will be held at 10:00am prior to the service. A gathering of friends and family for a luncheon will immediately follow the memorial service at the church. A graveside service for family will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Willard, OH. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 287 W.
