Richard A. "Dick"
Preibisch
May 24, 1950 — Oct 14, 2026
Richard Alan “Dick” Preibisch, 76, of Xenia, entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. He was born May 24, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio, the youngest son of Oscar A. and Mildred Porter Preibisch.
Dick was a proud graduate of Beavercreek High School, Class of 1968, and Sinclair Community College, Class of 1971. He honorably served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. He later spent 41 years serving his community as a letter carrier with the Dayton Post Office.
On June 22, 1974, Dick married his best friend, Cathy Shaw, at First Reformed Church in Xenia. They recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. Although their personalities were quite different, they complemented one another beautifully. Cathy's outgoing, exuberant nature was a wonderful match for Dick's quiet good humor and gentle spirit. Together, they built a happy life filled with love, laughter, companionship, and shared adventures. They particularly enjoyed traveling to beautiful places, especially to experience the brilliant colors of autumn.
Dick was an enthusiastic bowler who once rolled an extraordinary 299 game, coming within a single pin of perfection. He also enjoyed playing softball, photography, hiking, music concerts, documentaries, classic movies, and the rock music of the 1960s.
A devoted sports fan, Dick enthusiastically supported the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds, and Dayton Gems hockey team. One of his most treasured memories was attending, with Cathy, a Cincinnati Reds victory during the 1975 World Series.
Although a man of few words, Dick possessed a sunny disposition, a gentle sense of humor, and a genuine appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He was a loyal friend and a warm, reassuring presence in the lives of those who knew him. He never sought the spotlight, but his quiet kindness and cheerful nature left a lasting impression.
Dick is survived by his devoted wife, Cathy (Shaw) Preibisch; his dear sister-in-law, Lori (Richard) Robol; one niece and three nephews; and many cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, William and Wilma Shaw; and his brothers, Walter “Wayne” Preibisch and Alfred “Fred” Preibisch.
Dick will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 1402, New York, NY 10018, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
