Obituary

Richard J. "Rick" Martin, 60, of Xenia, OH passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, August 1, 2014 at his home. He was born July 1, 1954, in Dayton, the son of Richard and Mary Ann Barlow Martin. He was beloved by all who met him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend. He is survived by his wife Vicki of 38 years and his children Heather (Daniel) Mangan, Angela (Andrew) Hinkle & Jessica (Ian) Robinson. He had seven grandchildren; Cole Brakeall, Jonathan, Alexander, Danielle (Danni) & Gabriel Mangan,and Spencer and Cameron (Peanut) Hinkle. He is also survived by his parents Richard & Mary Ann Martin as well as a big brother to 3 siblings; Kristine (Sherman) Bonecutter, Terry Martin, & Tricia (Douglas) Meador. He is survived by his wife's family; Muriel (Thomas) Whittington, James (Brenda) Richardson, Timothy, Norman (Connie), David (Patty), Marlin, & Richard Whittington. He was proceeded in death by his father- in- law, Jess Richardson and brother-in-law Michael Richardson. He coached softball and soccer in Spring Valley for many years. He loved coaching, watching, and playing sports, especially with his kids and grandkids! Rick spent countless hours giving back to the community; through his work with the Lions Club in Spring Valley, heading up and running the Spring Valley softball program and soccer program, playing Santa for the kids of Spring Valley & St. Brigid Catholic Church, being Mr. Potato for the Potato Festival to the delight of many local children. He loved playing practical jokes on his family and friends and teaching his grandkids how to pull pranks as well. If you had the pleasure of talking with him you always walked away learning something new as he looked at every interaction as a learning experience. Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, August 16 at 2pm, at Walton Park, corner of Rt. 725 and Main St., Spring Valley, Oh. 45370. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Southwest Regional Office, 2808 Reading Rd., Cincinnati, OH. 45206.
