Obituary

Rita B. Kyne Hendrickson was born in Spring Valley, Ohio, on February 11, 1923, and died at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, early on August 31, 2015--age ninety-two and a half. For sixty-one years she was the wife of Joseph P. Hendrickson, who predeceased her. They were married on February 17, 1942, at St. Brigid's Catholic Church in Xenia. He was from a Kentucky farm and was in the Army Air Corps and stationed at Wright Patterson Field. They met at a Xenia roller rink while Rita was still a student at St. Brigid's High School. Upon her graduation, Rita had a scholarship offer to attend what was then the College of Mount Saint Joseph in Cincinnati. But she gave it up to get married to the Kentucky aviator and to raise a family. The family lived a large part of their lives in the Chicago Area, where Rita was a homemaker and her husband was a pilot for Eastern Airlines. For the past quarter of a century, Rita was a resident of Safety Harbor, Florida, and a devoted parishoner at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church. For the past year, as her health declined, she lived at Bon Secours Maria Manor Nursing Home in St. Petersburg, where she attended daily mass in her wheelchair. She is survived and remembered by her four sons and daughter: Maurice, Paul, Eric, and Mark Hendrickson, and Jeanne Snider, as well as by eight grandchildren and an expected great-grandchild. A memorial funeral Mass will be held at 11am, Friday, October 16, at St. Brigid Church, 312 Fairground Rd., Xenia, with Rev. John Krumm officiating. Burial will follow in St. Brigid Cemetery.
