Robert Leo "Bob" Schutte, 87, of Xenia, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at Patriot Ridge Assisted Living Center. He was born July 13, 1928, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Alma Baker Schutte and Edward Charles Schutte. Bob graduated from Springfield Catholic Central High School. He was a member of St. Brigid Church for 57 years and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bob joined the Army Air Corps in 1947 and transitioned to the U. S. Air Force when it was created later in 1947. He was recalled to duty during the Korean Conflict and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. During the Vietnam War, he helped train air crews at Clinton County Air Force Base where he had worked as an air reserve technician/civil servant since 1958. He retired from the Air Force in 1985. In 1977, Bob earned his civil aviation pilot license and later owned and flew several small private aircraft in a business venture known as B & B Aircraft, which he founded and operated with life-long friend William "Bill" Zugelder of Springfield. Bob enjoyed flying, bowling, singing funny songs, spending time with his grandchildren, and feeding the birds and squirrels in his backyard. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Brunsman; the caregivers at Patriot Ridge, the nurses and staff at Greene Memorial Hospital, and especially the staff from Hospice of the Miami Valley, who were by Bob's side around the clock at the end. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Beasley Schutte, whom he married in December 1958; and by a son, David Michael Schutte, who died September 14, 2015; and by his parents and two sisters, Maxine Schutte Marsh and Pauline Schutte Sheffield.
