Roy Hess, 88, of Xenia, passed away Tuesday morning, December 14, 2010, at his residence. He was born August 4, 1922, in Bellbrook, the son of Jess and Elsie Susan Smith Hess. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during World War II, an avid Allis Chalmers Tractor Collector, and was a lifelong Greene County farmer, retiring at the age of 82. He is survived by a beloved friend, Boots Holford, Xenia, a daughter and son-in-law, Diana (Tom) Beam, Wilmington, a son and daughter-in-law, Roy E. (Shelly) Hess, Xenia, five grandchildren, Beth Anne (Timothy) Banfill, Roy E. (Heather) Hess, Michael Beam, Melissa Beam, and Michelle (D.J.) Gillman, seven great-grandchildren, and by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret (Evers) Hess, on September 13, 2000, and by a brother, Fred Hess. Roy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 11am, Thursday, December 16, 2010, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia.
