Ruth Maxine Miller Gills, 94, of Jamestown, passed away Monday, July 31, 2023, at Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. She was born February 28, 1929, in Greene County, Ohio, the daughter of Ralph and Bertha Chaney Lovett. She is survived by a son, Chester (Donna) Miller, daughter, Rachel (Dennis) Harlow, sister-in-law Helen Lovett of Wisconsin, sister-in-law Lelia Pickering, grandchildren Eric (Clarissa) Harlow, Holly Harlow, Mark (Chelsey) Harlow, Heather (William) Stites, and Ashley (Michael) Westfall; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Darren and Taliese Harlow, Cora (Hunter) Osbourn,  Miyanna and Monét Vest, Callie Shaw, Evan Brown, Mary Blue, Piper and Lily Stites, Anna and Albie Chavez, and Savannah Westfall, several nieces and nephews, family friends Lloyd and Marlene Wood, Nathan and Lauren Wood, Evan and Taylor Wood, special neighbor JD Montgomery and by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Ancil Miller, in 1986, her second husband, John Gills, in 2004, a great-grandson Abram, a sister, Helen Richards, and four brothers, Gene, Jim, Lee, and Max Lovett. Ruth was a member of the Pleasant View Church of Christ and of the Port William Senior Citizens. She worked as a unit clerk for Greene Memorial Hospital for many years and volunteered for 20 plus years. She enjoyed playing the autoharp and piano, going out to eat, crocheting and knitting for which she won a few awards at the county fair. Ruth will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Services will be held at 12 noon, Monday, August 7, at Pleasant View Church of Christ, 6906 Upper Jamestown Rd., Jeffersonville, with Pastor Nathan Wood officiating. Visitation will be held from 11am Monday, until service time. Burial will be in Silvercreek Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity in her memory.
