Obituary

Sarah M. (Watts) McNicol, 91, of Xenia, came to the end of her journey in this life on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Brookdale Beavercreek Community where she had spent the last six months and had been loved and cared for by many.  She was born in Highland County, Ohio on March 20, 1925 to Roy and Elsie Watts. She is predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Wendell and J. Wilene Watts, her first husband, Edward Morrow(who lost his life in WWII), and her husband of 54years, Hugh T. McNicol.

Sarah enjoyed a full and active life, filled with friends and family.  She was an active member of Hawker United Church of Christ for many years, as well as Child Conservation League, Beavercreek Fire Dept. Women's Auxiliary and PTA.  She also served as a Girl Scout Leader.  Sarah is remembered by many for her dedicated service of 20 years as a secretary at Beavercreek Schools.

Sarah was a wonderful mom who faithfully supported her children through all of their endeavors. She was the ring leader for the family camping trips that took place near and far.  She and her husband enjoyed bowling, bridge and card playing.  Later in life they were active members of the Shooting Stars square dancing club.  Sarah created beautiful needlework over the years, keeping her hands busy while she watched Dayton Flyers basketball or the Cincinnati Reds. She also became an avid golfer, even playing 3-4 times a week until just a few years ago. She so enjoyed her grandchildren and being involved with them any way she could.

She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Jean McNicol (Bob Brocklehurst) of Tucson, AZ, Judy Steffen (Jack) of Centerville, Joyce Adams (Rich) of Columbus, OH, and son, John (Pam), of Leesburg, FL; her grandchildren, Debra Steffen, Beth Hazelton (Josh), Capt Jeremiah Adams (USMC) (Caitlin), Freddy Adams, Heidi Adams, Melissa Fleckenstein (Bryan), Heather McNicol and Nathan McNicol; and great grandchildren, Allyson, Sarah, and James Hazelton and Lola Adams.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Alzheimer's Association Miami Valley Chapter, 31 W. Whipp Road, Dayton, OH 45459 or http://www.alz.org/dayton.
