Sarah J. Ray, 89, formerly of Xenia, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Dayspring of the Miami Valley, Fairborn. She was born October 26, 1932, in Gordon, Texas, the daughter of Dee and Martha (Simmons) Jones. She was a member of Arrowbrook Baptist Church, and the Miami Chapter #107, O.E.S. Waynesville, OH. She was a Deputy Grand Matron for the OES. She was employed at Home Federal Savings and Loan and retired as an insurance agent with LeSourd and Co. She is survived by four daughters, Kathleen (Arthur) Applegate, New Carlisle, Cindy (Mickey) Sweeney, Cedarville, Cara (Jeff-deceased) Scurlock, Hernando, FL, and Beth Ray, Kettering. Grandchildren, Kyle (Elise) Sweeney), Allison(Nicholas) Marzolo and Great grandson Finn, Jessica Scurlock, and Nicholas Scurlock, granddaughter Elizabeth Hampton and great grandson Barrett. Nieces and nephews, Kitty (Loftus) McAdams of Gresham, OR, Sam Loftus , Pendleton, OR., Patricia Jones, Beavercreek, and Edwin (Teresa) Jones, Riverside. Step Grandsons, Nickolas(Dakota) Applegate, Derek (Jeni) Applegate, and Christopher Applegate. Several great nieces and nephews, and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William E.Ray, on October 29, 2009, a granddaughter, Katie Lynn Payton. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Monday, November 29, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Eastern Star services at 8pm. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Valley View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton in her memory.
