Shirley
Culver
October 10, 1928 – February 27, 2025
Shirley Louise Culver, 96, was taken to her heavenly home on February 27, 2025. She experienced a quiet and peaceful departure and is now with her Savior and Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, forever.
Shirley was born to Hilbert and Thelma Johnson on October 10, 1928, in Akron, Ohio. She was predeceased by her parents, her daughter-in-law, Jacqueline, her brother, Ron, and her husband, Randy. Randy and Shirley were married June 13, 1948, and Randy went to be with the Lord three months before their 70th anniversary. Shirley dedicated her life to being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She is survived by their three sons: Darrick (Sandy) Culver (Strongsville, OH), David (Carolyn) Culver (Jamestown, OH), and Tedd (Michele) Culver (Swartz Creek, MI), eight grandchildren: Jeanelle (Murrell) Francis, Jonathan (Sarah) Culver, Joanna (Donnie) Burchell, Jaclyn (Michael) Freeman, James (Brittany) Culver, Andrew (Yuki) Culver, Ashley (Jon) Zakikhani, Nicole (Justin) Meyer, John (Christie) Dodge, and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
Shirley believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and was saved as a young girl. She grew in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ living an exemplary Christian life and serving in local churches as a Sunday School teacher, a choir member, in women's ministries, and in many other ways. Her sweetspirit and servant's heart endeared her to family and friends alike. She will be remembered for her godly, Christ-like and generous character, putting others ahead of herself and finding joy in serving Jesus. Shirleywas a great cook and made the biggest, best chocolate chip cookies. Her artistic talent was evident in making paper dolls, sewing and needle work, painting floral designs on furniture, and doodling on cards and envelopes. Her hospitality was unmatched and a labor of love to all she served in her home. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out, personifying what Paul wrote in Titus 2:3-5, " Older women…are to be reverent in behavior…They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled." She was a faithful and submissive wife, a nurturing and loving mother, and a constant blessing to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never missed a birthday or anniversary and delighted in sending gifts or treats in cards. She was a praying woman and a student of God's Word who led Bible studies and discipled other women. Her faith was real, her prayers were effectual, and her witness was winsome. Her life's verse was John 10:28, (Jesus said) "I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand."
A memorial service will be held on March 22, 2025, at Grace Church, 7393 Pearl Rd, Middleburg Heights, OH . Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, with the service at 2:00pm.
