Susan Kay (Buell) Sonnycalb, 73, of Xenia, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 9, 2026 surrounded by her family. She was born November 30, 1952, in Xenia, Ohio, the daughter of Robert L. and Phyllis Flatter Buell. She married her high school sweetheart, Kevin Sonnycalb in 1974, and the couple remained in Xenia to raise their daughters. After Kevin’s death in 2011, Susie worked with Xenia Rotary to establish the Kevin Sonnycalb Memorial Fireworks Festival to honor his memory and to continue his work in giving back to the community. She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Meredith S. (James) Sanders, Abigail S. (Pete) Johnston; grandchildren, Greyson James Sanders, Brynn Abigail Sanders, Harper Lauren Johnston, Cole Kevin Thomas Johnston, and Hadley Kate Johnston; a sister, Jennifer B. Seidel, brother-in-law, Paul R. Storey; several nieces and nephews; and by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kevin, a sister, Rebecca B. Storey, and by a brother, Robert Barry Buell. Susie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Susie’s quiet strength and selfless support of her family set a standard. Loved by many as Mimi, she was an expert entertainer, who enjoyed crafting, traveling, and most of all, being a wife to her late husband, mother to her two daughters, and grandmother to her five grandchildren.
