Teresa J. Shaffer, 72, of Spring Valley, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Kettering Medical Center. She was born February 21, 1953, in Troy, Ohio, the daughter of James E. and Betty L. Flaugher Cummings. She was a 1971 graduate of Xenia High School and was a member of Spring Valley Global Methodist Church. She was the 1997 Spring Valley Citizen of the Year and was a 50 year resident of Spring Valley Township. She was known as the "Potato Soup Queen" for coordinating the cooking at the annual Potato Festival and was involved with the Greene County Fair and 4-H. She was a main cog in the turkey dinner for the church and was a cook at the Spring Valley Senior Center for many years. She volunteered at the former Heathergreene Nursing Home, Xenia, and was a Girl Scout leader. She is survived by her husband, Thomas L. Shaffer, whom she married, November 14, 1975, her mother, Betty L. Cummings, two daughters, Jennifer (Billy) Magnuson and Amanda (Jeremy) Stacy, five grandchildren, Whittney, Sierra (Dylan), Alex, Jackson, and Olivia, two great-grandchildren, Mason and Meredith, a sister, Deborah (Bobby) King, by several nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her father, and by two sisters, Janet (Robert) Stanley and Rachelle Brammer. Teresa will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Services will be held at 10am, Friday, June 27, at Spring Valley Global Methodist Church, with Pastor Darlene Hensley officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Thursday June 26 at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery.
