Obituary

Thomas E. Johnston, 79, of Xenia, passed away Friday, February 27, 2015, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born July 24, 1935, in Dayton, Ohio and would have celebrated his 80th birthday this year. Tom was the son of Joseph and Geneva Lehman Johnston. He was a member of St. Brigid Church, a graduate of St. Brigid High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He retired as a truck driver with Kroehler's Furniture, Super Valu, and LP Cavett, Co. He also worked for the Donley Oil Co. and owned and operated his own dump truck business. He is survived by his wife, Janet R. (Inman) Johnston, whom he married, June 29, 1957, a daughter, Barbara (Chris) Jervis, Xenia, a son, Thomas Johnston, Xenia, three grandchildren, Aaron Jervis, Adam Jervis, and Caitlin Jervis, a great-grandson, Austin Huelsman, three sisters, Mary Eleanor Good, Beavercreek, Dorothy Elmore, Dayton, and Marjorie Ann Wiechers, Kettering, by several nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Joanne Johnston, and by three brothers, Joseph Johnston, Robert Johnston, and Raymond Johnston. Tom enjoyed football and NASCAR. He also enjoyed woodworking, working outdoors in the yard and having breakfast with his old friends at Linda's Restaurant in Xenia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am, Wednesday, March 4, at St. Brigid Church, 312 Fairground Rd., Xenia, with Rev. John Krumm officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30am Wednesday at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N Detroit St., Xenia. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Brigid Memorial Program, 258 Purcell Ave., Xenia, OH, 45385, or to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH, 45409, in his memory.
