"Peg" Cannon
June 21, 1925 – July 1, 2018
Verda K. "Peg" Cannon, 93, of Xenia, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. She was born June 21, 1925, in Sistersville, West Virginia, the daughter of Lionel and Verda Hartford Koontz. She was a member of St. Brigid Church, and was a volunteer with the Xenia FISH Pantry for over 35 years, and served as its director until 2015. She was a founding member of the Greene County League of Women Voters, a past member of the Children's Services Board and the Board of Directors of Easter Seals. Peg served on the Board of St. Vincent DePaul, operating out of St. Brigid Church and was inducted into the Greene County Women's Hall of Fame in 2014. She was awarded 2015 Outstanding Senior Citizen for Greene County by the Greene County Council on Aging and retired from the Greene County Health Department after 20 years employment. She is survived by two daughters. Barb Cannon, Xenia, and Jennifer (Robert) Danko, Crossville, TN, two sons, Patrick Cannon, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and John Cannon (Michelle Salazar), Crossville, TN, 10 grandchildren, Sarah Cannon, Nicholas (Valerie) Danko, Zachary (Brittany) Cannon, Emily (Christopher) Young, Bradlee (Jennifer) Cannon, Samantha Cannon, Brittany (Josh) Richter, Benjamin Cannon, Gabrielle (Kevin) Sasse, and Hailey Sasse, 8 great-grandchildren, A. J. Bennett, Chase Bennett, Maya Cannon, Henry Cannon, Xiomara Cannon, Madelyn Young, Alexis Young, and Brady Cannon, brothers, Albert Koontz, Twinsburg, and Charles (Janet) Koontz, Lexington, KY, by several nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Allen J. Cannon, on July 17, 1998, an infant son, Andrew Michael, daughter-in-law, Perian Cannon, a brother, Donald Koontz, and by two sisters-in-law, Emma Koontz and Betty Koontz. Peg will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Saturday, July 7, at St. Brigid Church, 312 Fairground Rd., Xenia, with Rev. Andrew Cordonnier officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Friday at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Burial will be in St. Brigid Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Xenia FISH Pantry, 541 Ledbetter Rd., Xenia, OH, 45385, in her memory. Condolences may be made to the family at www.NeeldFuneralHome.com .
