Obituary

Walter E. Whitaker, Jr. left us on January 3rd after a lengthy respiratory/cardiovascular illness.  Walt attended Berea College in Kentucky, where he studied painting and fine arts.  He went on to teach these techniques and others he developed at Xenia High School, as well as in summer classes at his residence, ultimately mentoring many toward successful careers in the field.  After he retired, he served in a hybrid role at the Country Club of the North, hearkening back to the bustley scene he had enjoyed at Berea.  All this time, he continued to produce abstract and occasionally figurative paintings and other works for a welcoming audience, including many sponsored shows and commissioned pieces.  He was preceded in his exodus around seven years ago by his first wife, Marian, and is survived by his son Bert.  Walt will be missed by the many who know him and would want all to know that he and Marian had a wonderful time in the life they spent with you.

We will return him to the Terra at Woodland Cemetery in Xenia on Friday, January 16th.  Service is at 2 p.m. at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, contributions should instead be made to The Truth Initiative and NIAAA. Neeld Funeral Home is handling services.
