"Bill" Turner

William H. "Bill" Turner, 79, of Selma, Ohio, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at his residence. He was born July 27, 1944, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Malcolm Roderick and Esther Smith Turner. He was preceded death by his parents, father-in-law, Lawrence J. Bone and mother-in-law, Elizabeth (DeVoe) Bone, two brothers-in-law, L. Kent Bone and Paul Williams, and by a nephew, Scott Rothe. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Karen Bone, whom he married, April 8, 1972, at the Paintersville United Methodist Church. He is also survived by two sons, Robert Alan (Cheryl Ann Danks) Turner and Jonathan Lee (Kimberly Nicole Chockley) Turner, three grandchildren of whom he was very proud: Zachary Lawrence, Travis Colton, and Cole Grayson, a brother, Richard Malcolm Turner (Geraldine (Wilson) and their daughters Vickie (Roger) Mackie and Linda (Mike) Leach, and sister, Marcia Williams, niece, Lisa Rothe, and six grandnieces and nephews; Natalie and Nickolas Mackie; and Thomas, Timothy, Sophia and Hope Leach. After high school, he attended and graduated from Wilmington College (home away from home four years), and after graduation in December 1966, he enlisted into the USAF and served six years in the Air Force/Air National Guard at the Springfield Municipal Airport as a communications specialist. He began farming at that time as a partnership with his brother which lasted until 1988. After this, he continued to farm the home farm, and in 1996, he brought his sons into the farm operation, so he could pursue work off the farm. Following a short course in welding, he was hired to use his new skill and did various work off the farm for several years. With retirement approaching, he was succeeded by his son Robert on the family farm. He was an active member of Faith Community United Methodist Church. Prior to this, he attended Green Plains Friends Church, Selma United Methodist Church, Paintersville UM (one year) and was a member of Cedarville UMC (one year). Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 10am, Monday, July 22, at Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Dr. Xenia, with Rev. Jeff Bandy officiating. Viewing will be held from 5-7pm Sunday, July 21, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Private entombment will be held by the family in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Community United Methodist Church, the Parkinson's Foundation, or to Cherish Hospice, in his memory.
